World Cup

The World Cup refers to an international tournament held to determine the champion of a particular sport, most commonly associated with soccer (football). Organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious tournament in men’s soccer, taking place every four years since its inception in 1930 (except in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II). It involves national teams from around the globe competing for the title, with a month-long series of matches culminating in a final.

In addition to the men’s World Cup, there is also a FIFA Women’s World Cup, which began in 1991 and similarly features national teams competing for the women’s championship in soccer. The term “World Cup” can also refer to other sports, with various disciplines hosting their own World Cup tournaments, each determined by the governing body of the respective sport. In general, World Cups are characterized by their global participation and significant cultural and sporting importance, drawing extensive viewership and fan engagement worldwide.
