Benedict XVI

Benedict XVI is the papal name of Joseph Ratzinger, who served as the 265th pope of the Roman Catholic Church from April 19, 2005, until his resignation on February 28, 2013. His papacy was notable for its focus on re-evangelization, engagement with modernity, and interfaith dialogue. He was the first pope to resign in nearly 600 years, citing health reasons. Benedict XVI is known for his theological writings and conservative approach to church doctrine, emphasizing traditional values within the Catholic faith. He is also recognized for addressing scandals within the Church and for his efforts to promote social justice and peace. After resigning, he took the title “Pope Emeritus” and continued to contribute to theological discourse until his death in December 2022.
