Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams, each consisting of nine players. The game is played on a diamond-shaped field, which has four bases: first base, second base, third base, and home plate. The objective of the game is for one team, the offense, to score runs by hitting a pitched ball with a bat and then running around the bases to reach home plate. The other team, the defense, aims to prevent runs by getting offensive players out, which can be achieved through various means such as catching the ball, throwing it to a base before the runner arrives, or striking them out with pitches that the batter fails to hit.

Baseball is characterized by its unique combination of strategy, skill, and teamwork, along with its distinct rules regarding batting, pitching, and fielding. The game is divided into innings, during which both teams have a turn to bat and a turn to field. Teams switch roles when the defensive team records three outs. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Baseball has a rich history and is often referred to as “America’s pastime,” though it is played and beloved worldwide.
